Many of you understand that emotions and thoughts influence health and wellbeing. Have there been times in your life that you've been unwell and could see the direct correlation between your emotional health and your physical health? I'd like to share a short personal story (well I'll try and keep it short) that illustrates this all too well.
2012 was the itchiest year of my life! I was suffering from intense, acute outbreaks of eczema - the 'experts' said source unknown. The most unimaginable and relentless burning itch on my torso, arms and face that became infected and very painful. I was hospitalized twice that year and it drained me physically and emotionally. Or was it actually the other way around?
2012 was a very emotionally stressful year, with great relationship challenges, an uncomfortable home environment and financial pressures. I was upset and irritated on a regular basis. Lousie Hay writes the probable cause behind eczema as "breath-taking antagonism and mental eruptions". That pretty much sums up how it was for me around that time.
In May of 2012 I attended a 10 day Birth Into Being training with Elena Tonetti-Valdimirova in her home in California. At that stage I had been intensely itching for seven weeks, on heavy duty steroid medications and antihistamines to reduce swelling and so I could sleep at night. I was barely able to take that flight to California but I was determined to go and had asked the specialist to up the dose of my medications, even though I usually refuse to take anything.
On the afternoon of day 1 at the workshop I experienced a process with Elena called a 'Core Cry'. A process that helped me get into my body, past my 'feeling sorry for myself' mind, to shift the underlying energy in my nervous system that was holding this whole itchy story in place. By that evening the itchiness had stopped. By the end of the 10 days, my skin was healing well and I'd stopped all medications.
I was better for several months and then had a relapse later that year after falling back into the same old environments and thought patterns. In early 2013 I finally chose to sit in the drivers seat of my life and changed my environment, reduced my stress levels and practiced greater awareness of my thoughts and habitual behaviours. This is an ongoing process but I can happily say I've been eczema free since I made the changes.
My story is an obvious example of stress leading to illness, thought and emotion directly affecting the physical. Stress is well documented as a major contributor to most illnesses (Atkinson,2000). And the solution - shift the energy that holds it in place, release the need to have this condition. There is much information available now on how thoughts and emotions affect our bodies, (some of my favourite authors are Bruce Lipton, Louise Hay, Dawson Church, Gregg Braden) if you'd like to learn more, check them out.
The Birth Into Being Method has gifted me with many tools to heal my past and work through challenges in life as they arise. There will always be challenges of course, only now I possess the ability to meet them with much more grace and ease than ever before.
My wish for you is that you are healthy and happy - in your body, in your heart & soul, in your mind. If you're not then please find the ways that will work for you to release all that which does not serve you. This lifetime is relatively short and there's no reason to hold back any longer.
